Our Mission

The mission of the Information Security Office (ISO) is to design, implement and maintain an information security program that protects the University's systems, services and data against unauthorized use, disclosure, modification, damage and loss. The ISO is committed to engaging the University community to establish an appropriate information security governance structure that enables collaboration and support for new information security initiatives.

Bi-Weekly Status Meeting

# Topic Speaker Discussion Summary
1 Identity Finder Mick Mick met with a group to discuss policies for Identity Finder. Mick will document the policies. The group is working on defining the policies for Identity Finder.
2 Privacy Jason Has anyone received any feedback/concerns related to privacy?Jason will work on a presentation to this group on this privacy and data collection to establish a consistent level of understanding. Jason will work on a presentation related to Privacy. What do we collect, why, and what we do with it?
3 Safe Connect – Research Devices Such As Microscopes Jason The concern is with installing software.Jason asked the group for feedback on how best to accomplish this.

Ideas:

  • Allow them to exempt themselves
  • Require separate machines for research vs. email and require SafeConnect only on the email machine.
  • Segregate these types onto separate network segments
Some research devices will need to be exempted from the SafeConnect rollout. Will have to do manual registration initially.
4 Safe Connect – Common Use Machines Jason Common use machines will still need the policy key, but they will be exempt from any policies. Common use machines will still need the policy key, but they will be exempt from any policies.
5 Safe Connect -  Wireless JasonCatherine If you use wireless to access the network, you must download the policy key prior to August 1, 2011.  Policy key must be loaded on machines that will use wireless prior to August 1, 2011.
6 Reboot Delay Linda Baker Did SafeConnect cause a 10 minute delay on reboot today? Jason asked that Linda force a reboot to see if she can recreate the problem. There was a Windows update last night. NA
7 FBI Jason Jason asked the group if they would like to have the FBI come in and do a presentation on base threats. Jason will ask the FBI to do a security presentation to this group.
8 Sassafras Jonathan Gill Jonathan asked if Jason could ask someone to provide this group with a presentation of Sassafras, a software metering suite. Jason will see if he can have someone provide a presentation of Sassafras to TSC.
9 SafeConnect – UConn Public Robert Sheahan Robert asked whether non-matriculating students and guests would still have access to UConn public. He also asked if he could expand port access for these users.  Jason to send document on UConn Public to this group.
